At this point, MobileMe is a failure. The migration from .mac to MobileMe was awful and right now the service is damn slow. But it’s only the tip of the iceberg, there is a stronger problem, the browser support.

Apple is used to drop old technology to support the new and better ones. The most known example is still the floppy disk drive that disappear for the first iMacs. They could do it because they design the software and the hardware and usually this is for the best.

So with MobileMe they decided to create amazing webapps and so to support only Safari and FireFox to avoid compatibility issues. So if you want to use the MobileMe web application, you will have to install one of these on your computer. But the problem is that I don’t access the Web Application from my computer because I have software like Mail.App, iPhoto et so on… I want to access MobileMe Web Application from computer of other people, at work, in the airport or a cybercafe and in this case it’s often difficult to just install new software (this is why you want to use a web application in the first place, to not install new software).
Safari and Firefox usage in growing but it’s still minor (around 25%).

MobileMe is a costly service and now i’m even not guaranteed to be able to access on most of the computer. I hope Apple will solve this issue and support more browser in the following weeks.

Update: Even worse, you cannot access MobileMe from an iPhone so you cannot even borrow one to check your emails. That sucks really hard…

Update2: And it continues, I cannot access my mails from my eeePC which run Firefox 2. I cannot access my mails from an iPhone or my laptop, how it comes they call that MobileMe and not StuckOnMyComputerMe

NeoGAF and other forums like this that don’t have good management are not only hurting society and hurting the videogame industry, they’re in decline, and they need to reform quickly before people stop listening to them…. If the moderators and people who run the site think they aren’t doing any damage, they are sorely mistaken, and it’s only a matter of time before something bad happens.

I finally listened the 1up Yours podcast with Denis Dyack when he explained why he posted a controversal topic on NeoGAF. I’m sure Denis is a nice guy and he did this topic to make a point he thaught was good.
